Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS Features: Google Allo, Emojis, GIFs, Update Size And More
Google rolled out the Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS update on Monday for Pixel and Nexus devices. The new update is an incremental one for the Nougat OS and brings along several new features.
The company announced in July its plans to promote gender equality through emojis. And in Android 7.1.1, emojis feature women of different races in a wide range of professions, including some — such as welders — that are considered predominantly male. The emojis were first launched with the Google Pixel series, but will now be available on every device that gets the Android 7.1.1 update.
The company has also revamped the keyboard — the new update comes with a GIF supportive keyboard and also lets the user directly access apps such as Google Allo, Messenger and Hangouts from the keyboard itself.
Another new feature is the app shortcuts on the homescreen. Android 7.1.1 will enable users to launch their favorite apps from the homescreen itself, by pressing and holding the app icon.
The update will be rolled out over-the-air to Nexus 6, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus 9, Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus Player, Pixel C and General Mobile 4G (Android One), as well as all devices enrolled in the Android Beta program. Google said in its blog post the update will be rolled out “over the next several weeks,” starting Dec. 5.
The Android 7.1.1 Nougat update has a size of around 240MB, Techtimes reports.
