Android Apps Reach 500K Milestone: Is Apple App Store in Danger?
A new analysis by ABI Research shows that Android phones are downloading more apps than Apple phones. However, the numbers also indicate that Android cellphones outnumber iPhones by a 2.4 to 1 ratio.
Therefore, Android apps may be outnumbering Apple right now, but this also means Apple is winning on an individual basis. iPhone owners are downloading more apps than Android owners.
The Android app market has hit 500,000 apps published this September. Another analysis report from German firm research2guidance also reveals that more than 37 percent of Android's apps were removed from its app store. Apple only had 24 percent removed. Their removal appears to be due to various reasons.
Both Apple's App Store and Android's Martket have seen exponential growth after launching for a few years. Android's new numbers may still lag behind Apple, but it will certainly gives greater incentive to developers to keep contributing.
