Android Nougat Galaxy S7 Release Date Confirmed For January
Samsung has confirmed that its Android Nougat beta program for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones has come to a close as of Dec. 30 and the official roll out of the operating system will commence in January.
“We will do our best to distribute the official version in January as soon as possible,” Samsung said in a note to beta testers within the program application.
At this time, Samsung has not revealed exactly when in January updates will begin. The manufacturer like has other steps in its Android development process to complete before an official rollout.
Once the update does start, updates will likely first come to unlocked models of the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, followed by regional carrier models. Mobile networks including Verizon and Vodafone have already revealed plans to update their handsets in January.
Most Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge models will update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat, but some will update to Android 7.0.
Other Samsung smartphones expected to update to Android Nougat include the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy Note 5 and the Galaxy A series.
