Andy Cohen Accuses James Corden Of Copying His Set
The "Watch What Happens Live" talk show host, Andy Cohen, has claimed another television host, James Corden, ripped off his set.
"I'm not a comedian [and] I think ["Watch What Happens Live" is] a different type of talk show," Cohen, 54 said during his appearance on "Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi" podcast Tuesday. "I think there has been a traditional idea of what a late-night talk show is, and I would argue that 'Watch What Happens Live' redefined what the late-night talk show is."
Cohen went on to share that "[Watch What Happens Live] was the first bar on late night [then] James Corden got a bar. James Corden kind of wound up..." and the host of the podcast Bruce Bozzi completed his sentence by saying, "Ripping off your set."
The Bravo executive producer replied, "There you go. I am so glad we're still going. That [the show] is, like, great, copy my set ... go with God."
Cohen also shared he doesn't "totally" feel like a part of a television late-night host group, even though he has been on television for 13 years.
"Years ago, there was a big photoshoot that 'Vanity Fair' did of all of the late-night talk show hosts and they left me out of it, but they added in James Corden who wasn't even on the air yet and Trevor Noah who had just started," he added.
However, Cohen revealed the magazine's editor named Graydon Carter apologized to him later. He recalled, "Graydon later said, 'You know what, you were right, you should've been in that.'"
This is not the first time Corden was accused of copying. Last month, he was slammed by netizens for copying comedian Ricky Gervais' joke, and saying it on his show. A Twitter user shared the video of Corden repeating Gervais' joke.
In response, Corden admitted on Twitter the joke was originally said by Gervais in one of his Netflix specials.
"Inadvertently told a brilliant Ricky Gervais joke on the show last night, obviously not knowing it came from him," Corden tweeted. "It's brilliant, because it's a Ricky Gervais joke. You can watch all Ricky's excellent specials on Netflix. J x."
Gervais defended Corden by saying it must be one of his writers who stole his joke and gave it to Corden. "I doubt he would knowingly just copy such a famous stand-up routine word for word like that," Gervais added, The Guardian reported.
