Angela Bassett Teases 'Black Panther' Sequel, Says It Will 'Top' The First Installment [Watch]
Angela Bassett, who portrayed the character of Ramonda in Marvel's "Black Panther" teased fans about the upcoming sequel, "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" and said it is going to "top" the first installment.
The 63-year-old actress spoke about the movie in an interview on the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show," which is scheduled to air Monday. In the sneak peek of the episode, the actress can be seen talking about the sequel, " It’s going to be amazing. It’s going to top [the first] one. Can I say that?"
Host Ellen DeGeneres asked the actress how difficult it was for the team to return for the sequel, considering the lead actor Chadwick Boseman, who played the title role in the superhero movie, died in August 2020 after battling colon cancer.
Bassett, who played Black Panther's mother in the movie and also appeared in "Avengers: Endgame" alongside the late Boseman, said, "He was such an example, such a leader, an amazing talent — we all know that. Big heart, great intellect, and we just hope to raise his standard."
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" is going to be an emotional ride for avid fans due to the sudden news Boseman's untimely death. The 43-year-old actor was battling cancer during the filming and release of the mega hit, which only became known after he passed away.
The movie is slated to release on Nov. 11, Black Panther's sister, played by Letitia Wright, is expected to take the lead.
The highly anticipated sequel is helmed by director Ryan Coogler and will also star Tenoch Huerta, Winston Duke, Dominique Thorne, Daniel Kaluuya, Martin Freeman and Michaela Coel. As is the case with all Marvel movies, the plot is tightly kept under wraps.
Multiple reports revealed that the filming of the sequel resumed in January after being paused as Wright had suffered on-set injuries in November last year.
In the first installment, Wright played the role of a genius inventor, who was T'Challa's younger sister. The actress also appeared in other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies including "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame."
"Black Panther: Wakanda Forever" will be the third Marvel film to release this year, after "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" and "Thor: Love and Thunder," which are slated to release on May 6 and July 8 respectively.
