Angelina Jolie Being ‘Cash-Strapped’ After Career Focus Shift Just A Rumor
Even though actress-turned-director Angelina Jolie reportedly has millions in her bank account, a recent report tried to claim Brad Pitt’s estranged wife was strapped for cash after she shifted her career focus from acting to directing. However, the baseless report was debunked.
The tabloid, which tried to stir up the false rumor was Radar Online, with its article titled, “‘Living Paycheck To Paycheck!’ Angie’s Directing Dreams Have Left Her ‘Cash-Strapped.’”
According to the report, “the Maleficent” star was eager to see the shooting for the sequel of the hit movie get wrapped up so that she could get her hands on the $25 million fee she was charging for the installment. A so-called anonymous “informant” added the actress was “desperate” to collect her paycheck because pausing her acting career to focus on transitioning into a full-time director had left a “gaping hole in her wallet.”
“Maleficent 2 is her first blockbuster role in years and she’s currently searching for another big movie to star in as a follow-up,” the questionable tipster told the tabloid. “Her days of taking a five-year break from acting at a time are over, simply because she won’t be able to continue to afford her family’s lifestyle if she does.”
The source went on to insinuate Jolie had made a big mistake in putting her acting career on hold in order to chase her directing dreams as the latest career shift did not make her the kind of money she earned being an actress.
“Directing is Angie’s passion but those projects have only made her a couple of million in total. Acting is the major business in her life and she knows it’s time to ramp that up even further,” the insider added.
Gossip Cop rubbished the tabloid’s report after reaching out to a source close to the actress, who confirmed Jolie did not choose movies based on what kind of money was being offered to her and was not planning on giving up on her directing dreams any time soon. Moreover, last year at a Toronto Film Festival, the actress confirmed she wanted to continue her acting career hand in hand with her stints as director.
"I like championing other people and finding their greatness," she said, explaining her choice to take up the behind the camera role in addition to being an actress.
Radar Online also got one crucial detail wrong in its report – Jolie wrapped up filming for “Maleficent 2” back in August, which meant the actress would have collected her paycheck by now, which made the tabloid’s report pointless. Not only that, the actress had also started and finished production for an upcoming fantasy drama, “Come Away.”
Jolie has had considerably decent start to her directing career with projects like “Unbroken,” a World War II movie, and the Netflix drama “First They Killed My Father.”
