KEY POINTS

  • Angelino will continue playing for RB Leipzig next season
  • Angelino likely to be absorbed permanently by The Red Bulls
  • Manchester City has loaned out Angelino several times in the past

Jose Angel Esmoris Tasende, better known to most as Angelino, will be returning to Red Bull Arena following another loan deal between RB Leipzig and Manchester City. He saw action for The Red Bulls in the second half of last season and will now continue his run this season.

This time around, he is on loan with Leipzig for the whole 2020-21 season. However, a permanent stay could be in the offing.

Angelino needs to make at least 12 appearances for The Red Bulls to trigger the purchase option. Five of those were already played last season. Once this 12-game requirement is met, Leipzig can trigger the buyout option. Leipzig needs to pay City $12 million to permanently get the 23-year-old left-back, Sky Sports reported.

Beyond that, Leipzig can hook up Angelino long-term. They could sign him to a four-year deal, meaning Angelino would remain at Red Bull Stadium until 2025.

In all, Angelino appeared in 18 games for Leipzig. He scored one goal and had five assists during that spell. He also played a key role for the club in the knockout phase of the Champions League. That run fell short when RBL fell to PSG.

"I'm delighted to be staying in Leipzig and that we carry on our journey together," Angelino said via the RB Leipzig website. "We also had really successful Bundesliga and Champions League campaigns. I'm very much looking forward to the future and lots more success."

After joining City in 2013, Angelino found himself on several loan deals. He was also sent to play for New York City FC, Girona, Mallorca, NAC Breda and PSV. But it appears he has found the perfect team to join with RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche speaking highly of the Spaniard.

"Angel hasn’t needed much time to settle in with us and he’s understood our brand of football from the start," Krosche said. "He did really well in the Ruckrunde and also helped us achieve our goals in the Champions League. He’s made a great impact with us. That’s why we’re so pleased that he’ll be wearing an RB Leipzig shirt for at least another season."
