A teenager and his friend allegedly murdered a man a week ago in India's Karnataka state and burned his body after the victim made rude remarks toward the boy's mother.

Police found the burnt body of the victim, identified by authorities as 30-year-old Sumesh, in the city of Arsikere on June 12, local newspaper the Times of India first reported. The rancher's body was charred beyond recognition except for his limbs and he was only identified based on his rings and a copper bangle. His bike was also found nearby, which further helped confirm his identity.

Authorities made a breakthrough in the case when police from the neighboring city of Hassan detained the alleged killers, a 16-year-old secondary school student and his 17-year-old friend, who was taking a pre-university course.

The unnamed 16-year-old was allegedly upset by Sumesh's remarks on his mother when he asked for money to repair his bike, which prompted the teenager to allegedly conspire with his friend to kill Sumesh, Hassan police superintendent R. Srinivas Gowda said.

Police said the two friends had lured Sumesh to drink liquor with them and took him to a place approximately 5 kilometers away from their village, where the duo allegedly attacked Sumesh with clubs after the victim became drunk.

According to Gowda, both teenagers returned to the village and went about their lives. They are now in the 16-year-old boy's home, police said.

The relationship between the alleged killers and the victim was not disclosed.

A similar incident occurred last month in Orange County, California when a man opened fire at a car on a freeway and killed a 6-year-old boy because the driver he was targeting made a rude gesture.

Marcus Eriz told police that he grabbed a gun, rolled down the window of his vehicle and shot at the car being driven by a woman along State Route 55 after she allegedly gestured toward him while he was on his way to work on May 21, court documents showed.

The shot had killed 6-year-old Aiden Leos, who was sitting on a booster seat in the back of his mother's car.

Eriz and his girlfriend, 23-year-old Wynne Lee, are scheduled to be arraigned Friday over the incident.
