‘Animal Kingdom’ Season 2 Spoilers: Episode 1 Synopsis; Watch ‘Eat What You Kill’ Promo
“Animal Kingdom” Season 2 is almost here, which means the Cody family will be wreaking havoc and pulling risky jobs once again. However, this time around, it looks like Smurf is no longer pulling the strings.
“After a risky heist misfires, the boys blame Smurf (Ellen Barkin), sending shock waves through the family,” the synopsis for episode 1, “Eat What You Kill” teases. In the premiere promo for the TNT series, one of the guys can be heard telling the others that Smurf is just using them to get what she wants.
Deran (Jake Weary) can then be seen saying, “she tries to pit us against each other” as he holds ice on his face. The brothers are known for getting rough with one another but could Smurf have intentionally started a fight between them?
Baz (Scott Speedman) can later be seen telling his brothers that Smurf is waiting for them to fall on their faces, meanwhile, it looks like she is taking a special interest in J (Finn Cole), most likely molding him to be more like his uncles.
In an exclusive look at “Animal Kingdom” Season 2, Smurf can be seen telling J, “It’s a family, things go wrong sometimes.”
Baz is later seen explaining to Smurf that the guys think it’s unfair she picks the jobs and how they split the money when they are the ones taking all of the risks. Smurf then reminds him that she welcomed him into her home and raised him like her own son but Baz informs her that her children are beginning to resent her.
Will this be the beginning of the end for the Cody family?
“Baz copes with being a single parent,” the synopsis for episode 1 says. Last season, Smurf found out Baz’s wife Catherine (Daniella Alonso) was friends with a police officer and begin to suspect that she was no longer loyal to the family.
When Smurf realized that Cat stole money from her hiding place behind the dryer she was convinced that Cat would take Baz’s daughter and run.
Throughout the season, Cat became more distant from the family and began to she suspect the Codys had something to do with her parents’ death. Cat and Smurf were also always at war to be the number one woman in Baz’s life but thanks to her power over her sons, she won that contest.
Smurf manipulated Pope (Shawn Hatosy) into checking up on Cat to make sure she was still on their side. However, when he discovered she was planning to run, Pope killed her, took her belongings and buried her body.
Following the murder, Smurf attempted to convince Baz that Cat left him however, he remained suspicious about her disappearance because he was confident if she ever left him, she wouldn’t leave their daughter behind.
“Deran makes plans for the future,” the synopsis for the TNT series states. Although Deran seems to go with the flow when it comes to doing jobs with his brother, he is also keeping a big secret from his family.
Last season, Craig (Ben Robson) confronted Deran about his secret relationship with Adrian (Spencer Treat Clark) and hiding that he is gay from the rest of the family. Will Deran finally come out to his family and make a future with Adrian or could his future plans involve getting some space from the Codys?
The “Animal Kingdom” Season 2 premieres airs Tuesday at 9 p.m. EDT on TNT.
