Anne Hathaway Engaged: Actress Spotted with Ring
Anne Hathaway and Adam Shulman are engaged, a spokesperson has confirmed to People magazine.
The 29-year-old actress and Shulman, 30, have been dating since 2008.
Announcement of the couple's engagement comes just days after Hathaway was spotted with a ring at a park in Brooklyn, New York.
The New York native, who recently wrapped production playing Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, has maintained a quiet and low-profile relationship with Shulman over the years.
Yes, I have a boyfriend. And yes, I am very much in love with him. But you do need to keep your private life private, Hathaway told Marie Claire UK in September.
Adam totally ruined my plan. I was really actually looking forward to a little alone time and then I fell in love like a fool! she added.
Shulman, an occasional actor who has appeared in films like The Dukes of Hazzard: The Beginning (2007) and Twixter (2009), recently co-founded James Banks, a jewelry line he also designs for.
We hit it off immediately but it took us a pretty long time to get together . . . he thought that I had a boyfriend and I thought that he had a girlfriend, so I thought that I'd better keep my distance because I didn't want to be that girl, Hathaway revealed to Vogue in 2010.
Prior to Shulman, Hathaway was in a four-year relationship with Italian businessman Raffaello Follieri. Just months following their split in 2008, Follieri was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for 14 counts of money laundering and conspiracy. Follieri also pled guilty to posing as a real estate consultant for the Vatican.
Hathaway, who appeared in this year's romantic comedy One Day opposite Jim Sturgess, was recently spotted at the Occupy Wall Street movement in New York City. The actress, along with Shulman, was photographed marching from downtown Manhattan up to Union Square, holding signs that read Blackboards Not Bullets, and Student Debt Is a National Threat!
This is the first engagement for both Hathaway and Shulman.
The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters on July 20, 2012.
