Anne Hathaway’s Hooded Met Gala Gown: Who Designed It And How It Ranked Among Viewers And Critics
"The Force" on "The Fourth" was definitely with Anne Hathaway as she hit the 2015 Met Gala red carpet in an all-gold column dress Monday evening. The actress won the hearts of “Star Wars” fans everywhere as she worked the cameras in this seemingly movie-inspired outfit on the film series' unofficial "May the Fourth" holiday.
The 32-year-old appeared on the carpet sporting a hooded gold lamé cap-sleeved gown, which hugged her in all the right places. Hathaway paired the simple dress with a matching gold clutch, an ear full of bold earrings and simple, yet elegant, slicked-down tresses. The dress was designed for the Ralph Lauren collection.
According to Us Weekly, it was made of actual metal fibers from Italy, which likely added to its space-age appearance. Even the “Princess Diaries” actress couldn’t help but agree that she looked like something out of another galaxy. She told Women’s Wear Daily she felt like she was “from the deco future.”
The dress garnered much notice from people watching the Met Gala at home. Twitter users could not stop talking about the outfit -- or all the things Hathaway looked like wearing it. They compared her to multiple “Star Wars” characters, including Princess Leia and C-3PO-O, an Oscar award statue, and even her “Princess Diaries” character, Mia Thermopolis.
Not only was the Twitterverse taken aback by this daring look, fashion critics had a field day tearing it apart. Hathaway has been listed, by multiple outlets, as one of the worst-dressed of the night. She is joined on those lists by Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga and more.
