Annoyed By Wife Who Asked For 6.9 Cents, Dad Smashes Toddler To Death
A man in India killed his toddler daughter after his wife asked him for some money to buy a snack for the toddler.
The police said Vivek Uike’s wife asked him for Rupees 5 ($0.069) to buy a sweet for the crying 20-month-old toddler to pacify her, according to India Today. In a fit of rage, the 28-year-old accused picked up his daughter and smashed her head on a door repeatedly till she fell unconscious.
The woman rushed the child to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The incident took place at their home in a village in the western Indian state of Maharashtra on Tuesday.
"My husband returned home in the evening, and as my daughter Vaishnavi was crying, I asked him for Rs. 5 to buy her a sweet. Vivek said he doesn’t have any change. Vivek then got furious after I asked for money. He picked up Vaishnavi, took her to the door, and smashed her head on the door and stairs of our house. When I tried stopping him, he assaulted me too. Badly hurt, I somehow rushed my daughter to Tiroda sub-district hospital where she was declared dead before admission," the victim’s mother told the police.
The woman then registered a complaint against the accused, following which Uike was taken into custody.
"We have arrested Vivek on charges of murder, acting to the complaint filed by the infant’s mother. The accused banged the child’s head on doors after an argument over Rs. 5 ($0.069) for buying a sweet," a police officer told India Today.
Local reports stated that the couple tied the knot in 2018. A year after the marriage, the woman left their house as the accused used to assault her each time he was under the influence of alcohol.
The man remained in custody as of Thursday, and the victim’s body has been sent for an autopsy.
Earlier this week, a woman in the southern Indian state of Telangana throttled her toddler son to death during a drunken fight with her father-in-law. The woman, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, was taken into custody and booked under murder charges.
