Ansel Elgort Admits He May Flub 2015 Oscar Winner's Name On Red Carpet; Shares His Plans To Win An Academy Award
John Travolta’s show-stopping name flub at last year’s Oscars — Adele Dazeem, anyone? — appears to have struck some fear into Hollywood's elite. After arriving on the red carpet of the 87th annual Academy Awards Sunday, "The Fault In Our Stars" actor and Oscar presenter Ansel Elgort shared his fear that he may flub a name during the 2015 ceremony.
While the 20-year-old film star did not mention Travolta during his red carpet interview, he did dish he might mispronounce one potential winner's name during the show. And with nominees sporting names such as Ryszard Lenczewski (“Ida”) and Alejandro G. Iñárritu (“Birdman”), who could blame him?
“I’m worried because I have a lot of names and I’m sort of hoping, I’m not going to say who, doesn’t win because I can’t pronounce their name!” Elgort admitted to Ryan Seacrest on the red carpet.
“Don’t say it!” Seacrest warned the actor. “I mean we might be able to figure it out with a process of elimination, but don’t say that!”
During his interview with Seacrest, Elgort also spoke about his future in the acting business. Despite previously telling his acting coach he would one day thank him onstage at the Oscars, and having starred in two blockbuster films last year, Elgort said he is no longer confident he can snag an Academy Award.
“That’s cockiness and that’s gone now,” Elgort said. “I don’t ever expect to win but if its happens, I’ll be very happy. I don’t know. I still have some confidence, but the cockiness is hopefully gone.”
