Ansel Elgort has addressed statements saying he is a lesser-known celeb despite starring in big films like “The Fault In Our Stars” and “Divergent.” The 23-year-old actor brushed off the negativity of the statements and instead gave a humble answer.

On Wednesday, Elgort attended the premiere of his new movie “Baby Driver” in Los Angeles, and it was during this event when the criticism about his popularity was raised personally to him by Billboard. Elgort is frequently mentioned on the “Who? Weekly” podcast as one of the less popular actors in Hollywood. When this information was brought up to him, he simply replied that he is “cool” with it.

“I don’t walk around calling attention to myself. It’s important to be able to blend in; otherwise you turn into a Hollywood douchebag,” he added. “I’m sure plenty of people think I am one, too. I’m super easy to hate, but it’s fine. It’s hard to be liked and successful.”

To get his point across, Elgort set The Chainsmokers as an example of how people hate others due to their success. “It’s a prime example of how success makes everyone hate you if you’re not underground … And I’ve also been there. It becomes a meme to hate somebody … Sorry if I sound heated. It’s just so easy to be a hater,” he said.

Despite the criticism, Elgort is doing well in whatever he does lately. Apart from acting, he has a thriving music career, with his “Everbody” album landing on Billboard 200. Speaking of what other projects he wants to work on, the young star said, “I want to have a lot of energy. Moments of stillness at the piano, but I don’t want to forget that I’m young, and my instincts are probably good … I’m going to keep it really fun.”

Meanwhile, Elgort was joined by girlfriend Violetta Komyshan at the premiere of his new film this week. The two looked extremely happy on the red carpet and at the after-party. They rekindled their romance two years ago after a short breakup, according to Daily Mail.

Elgort’s “Baby Driver” is set to hit cinemas all over the world on June 28.
