Ant Anstead is opening up about his new love, Renée Zellweger, and his co-parenting arrangement with his ex-wife Christina Haack.
Anstead spoke about his new romance on Friday's episode of "Entertainment Tonight," sharing that he never expected to meet his girlfriend through his Discovery+ car show "Celebrity IOU: Joy Ride." According to the 42-year-old TV personality, the way he and Zellweger, 52, fell in love was "magical."
"Sometimes things come to you at the right time, and actually the right time is often the most unexpected," he said. "There's absolutely no way it was something I expected, but there's something magical in that right?"
Anstead and Zellweger first met when they filmed "IOU," which premieres on Monday. They first sparked dating rumors in June. Their romance made headlines in the same week his divorce from Haack was finalized.
In July, Anstead and Zellweger were spotted exchanging hugs and kissing passionately when they visited a hardware store. They were also photographed packing on PDA while on a bike ride in Laguna Beach, California, where they celebrated the Fourth of July together.
Meanwhile, Haack and Anstead have stayed in touch as they co-parent their 1-year-old son, Hudson. The "Wheeler Dealers" star noted that the "concept of blended families is more common now than it was and we live in a society now where it's more normal."
"So you have to bring a level of normalcy to it," he continued. "Hudson's peers and kids at school are all in very similar situations and it just has to come from a place of love really because ultimately if the decision is in favor of the child, it's ultimately the right decision."
Anstead, who also shares son Archie, 14, and daughter Amelie, 17, with his first wife, said he's witnessed many families "co-parent badly" and that "it's a real shame."
"Because ultimately when all that, I guess, awkwardness falls away, which it will do eventually, time's a great healer, you're only gonna get the opportunity to look back. And when you look back and you say, 'How did I handle my side? How did I handle my half?'" he continued. "And, you know, I'm really proud of my half."
Anstead also gushed about his youngest son and jokingly shared that he tried to take a "bad picture" of Hudson but failed because "the kid is so photogenic." He also said that he was his son's "best friend" and that they share a "close relationship" with each other.
Aside from Zellweger, Anstead's new show with co-host Cristy Lee, "Celebrity IOU: Joyride," will also feature James Marsden, Octavia Spencer, Danny Trejo, Tony Hawk and Mary J. Blige.
