'Ant-Man' Star Evangeline Lilly Receives Backlash After Urging PM Trudeau To Meet Anti-Vaxxers
Evangeline Lilly received a major backlash from Marvel fans after she urged Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to meet anti-vax protestors.
Fans took to Twitter Monday to share their reactions to Lilly's video.
"It’s ironic how Evangeline Lilly and Letitia Wright play extremely intelligent characters in the MCU yet in real life they spread conspiracy theories and misinformation on anything science-related," one of the users wrote.
Another Marvel fan gave two options to replace Lilly, who played Hope Pym's character in the movie, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania."
"I have two choices to play Wasp in the MCU when Evangeline Lilly gets replaced after Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," the fan suggested. "Jennifer Garner or Kate Beckinsale."
"Dear Kevin Feige," a fan addressed the President of Marvel Studios. "Could you remind your MCU cast members like Evangeline Lilly that alienating your international audience, by being loudly anti-vax or supporting right-wing do-chebaggery, isn't a good idea. I am a die-hard MCU fan but I'm ready to cut the WASP out of my viewing."
The comments came after the 42-year-old actress shared a video message via the Bridge City News Instagram handle.
In the five-minute, 15 seconds video, the actress said, "Dear prime minister Trudeau, I want to speak to you today about your current approach to and current treatment of our fellow Canadians who are protesting your federal vaccine mandates."
She further urged prime minister Trudeau to "sit down and walk the leaders of a group of 2.3 million protesters across the country who represent many millions more across the nation, and explain it to them and ask them to listen with open hearts and minds, and then reciprocate," adding, "If you’re so convinced of your own reasons for the mandates."
This is not the first time Lilly spoke against the COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
The actress took to Instagram last month to share a series of photos featuring the protestors. "I believe nobody should ever be forced to inject their body with anything, against their will," she captioned the post.
On the work front, the actress will be next seen in the Marvel movie, "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," which is slated to release on Feb. 17, 2023.
