Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci defended President Donald Trump after many accused the latter of mumbling through the National Anthem on Monday night while attending a college football playoff national championship game between Alabama and Georgia in Atlanta.

During an interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Tuesday, Scaramucci quite bizarrely used American music band “Maroon 5” to defend POTUS’s knowledge of the National Anthem after he debatably forgot the words.

According to a report in Mediaite.com, when Cuomo played a clip of the president singing the anthem wherein he appeared to miss a few words of “The Star-Spangled Banner” which the latter claimed everyone should respect, Scaramucci was quick to reply that POTUS knows the words to the National Anthem 1000 percent.

“Do you think that the president of the United States knows all the words to the national anthem?” asked Cuomo to which Scaramucci responded saying, “1000 percent.”

He also added that Trump knows the words to the National Anthem but was caught by the camera at a very bad time. He further said, “I gotta tell you, I know a lot of the Maroon 5 songs, I don't know all of them. I'm sure if you told me right now at 9.22 pm say every word in the national anthem — probably going to get a few of them wrong.”

To this, Cuomo responded saying, “I don't know why you want to admit that.”

In addition to this, the ex-communications director also managed to repeatedly challenge the host to sing the National Anthem correctly. However, Cuomo declined the offer in good humor stating that he would reserve his knowledge of the anthem for a “high school basketball game."

The back-and-forth concluded after Scaramucci told Cuomo, “My opinion is right, Chris, and yours is wrong.”

President Trump who was attending the National Championship drew a lot of flak from several users on Twitter as well after he was spotted singing the anthem with his hand over his heart during the anthem performance by Zac Brown Band.

After watching the video, many Twitter users declared that the president did not know the words to the anthem.

A Twitter user named Charlotte Clymer tweeted saying: “Trump literally does not know the words of the National Anthem. Did anyone else see that just now? Oh my god...#NationalChampionship.”

Another user, Josiah Johnson, mocked Trump and tweeted, “Trump Tweet: "Nobody sings the national anthem better than me! My anthem was the best anthem! Better than Obama! It was a very stable and accurate rendition."

It may be noted that the president earlier sparred with the National Football League over “take a knee” protests during the National Anthem where he not only publically blasted several players for not respecting the anthem or the flag but had also asked Vice President Mike Pence to leave an Indianapolis Colts game early after the players knelt during the National Anthem. This could be another reason for Trump receiving such backlash.
