Apple AirPods 2 New Surface Coating, Other Rumored Spec Upgrades

Tumors about the Apple AirPods 2 and its new features have been circulating. One of the latest speculations claimed that the next generation of Apple wireless headphones will be made out of a new material and even have some major upgrades that would make it better than its predecessor. Here’s what we know about this.

According to XDA’s Max Weinbach, the new AirPods 2 has a fast charge time that allows it to reach full battery charge from zero percent battery in just 15 minutes. However, the size of the device’s case will be larger to accommodate this feature and may feel larger on one side. These new AirPods 2 are also confirmed to be compatible with Qi chargers, even the ones not made by Apple.

However, take this information with a grain of salt as it’s not an official announcement from Apple.

The new AirPods 2 is also expected to have a surface coating similar to the Apple Pencil 2. This coating allows the device to fit smoothly in the user’s ear.

Other speculated features of the AirPods 2 are its electrocardiogram (ECG) feature which would allow them to detect the user’s heart rate in conjunction with their phone’s apps geared to fitness and health. It’s also expected to be waterproof, protecting the device from any form of moisture, whether it be from body perspiration or dives into deep water.

As of now, Apple has focused more on developing their programs than introducing new devices. In CES 2019, they announced that they will focus on improving their services on all smart devices as the year progresses. Meanwhile, the March event in Cupertino also featured Apple talking about this interest, but the company did tease some innovative devices to be released this year.

However, no details aside from the announcement were revealed, which leaves fans guessing as to what Apple is going to release this year.

Rumors claimed that Apple is currently developing devices such as the next iPhone generation, AirPods 2 wireless headphones, AirPower charging mat, and their take on the “foldable display” phone, the iPhone X Fold. So far, many fans are expecting these products to be released this year, but Apple has yet to release any official announcements for them and even brief teasers about these devices.
