Apple HomeKit Lets You Control Appliances With An iPhone, And It's Here In June

Apple users will begin to see the first HomeKit devices in June, according to the company. That’s despite an earlier report that said delays would set back the home-automation software service until August or September.

“HomeKit has been available for just a few months and we already have dozens of partners who have committed to bringing HomeKit accessories to market and we’re looking forward to the first ones coming next month," an Apple spokesperson said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal.

HomeKit, first announced in June 2014 during Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference, is designed to enable Apple’s iPhones and iPads to control various connected appliances in the house, such as lights, doors, locks, thermostats and outlets. In November, Apple began the certification process for HomeKit products, according to 9to5Mac. But since then, little has been said about the service.

Though Apple hadn't revealed a specific launch date for HomeKit, one developer said its HomeKit product would be ready between May and June, according to Re/Code.

In addition to HomeKit, Apple is also expected to soon reveal several new software developments for its products, including the successor to the iOS 8 operating system, likely to be named iOS 9.
