A new leak confirms some of the rumored features the iPhone 11 will have. Reports, however, give glimpses as to what features Apple’s 2020 iPhones will have. Here are some reasons why it would be best to wait for the iPhone 12 instead of getting this year’s iPhone models.

According to dummy models obtained by MacRumors, Apple’s upcoming 2019 iPhone 11 lineup aren’t really exciting. The three dummy models, representing the new 5.8-, 6.1- and 6.5-inch iPhones, all show just how the successors to the iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and iPhone XS Max would look like, respectively.

The dummy models show that the iPhone XS and XS Max successors will have three cameras placed inside a square camera module. The iPhone XR successor, on the other hand, will have two cameras inside a box similar in size to the ones found on the other models. The new devices also sport slightly adjusted volumes located at the side.

Next year’s iPhone

While the upgraded camera features might sound exciting, there’s not much to look forward to the iPhone 11 line compared to the iPhone 12 line expected to be released next year. Here are a few features expected to come with next year’s iPhones.

  • A new design

While the 2019 iPhones will look similar to the iPhone XR, XS and XS Max available in the market (save for the upgraded camera setup), the 2020 iPhones are expected to come with new designs. Of course, this is in line with the departure of Jony Ive from the Cupertino tech giant.

Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also said that Apple plans to release a high-end iPhone that will appeal to iPhone SE fans, as well as those who love huge iPhone “Max” models.

  • OLED displays

Apple’s 2020 iPhones will use OLED panels in lieu of LCD panels. With earlier reports saying Apple has added another name to its list of OLED panel suppliers for the iPhones, it’s not that difficult to expect the 2020 iPhones to used OLED displays.

  • ToF Camera

According to a Digitimes report, Apple is looking to equip its 2020 iPhones with a Time-of-Flight (ToF) sensor. This will give the 2020 iPhones enhanced cameras capable of 3D scanning and AR applications. Should the 2020 iPhones have this camera, more users will be able to maximize the ARKit ecosystem.

  • 5G and more

The 2020 iPhones are expected to have 5G connectivity, allowing users to take advantage of the fastest mobile network connection to date, Tom’s Guide noted.
