KEY POINTS

  • iPhone's charging ports need to be cleaned if experiencing charging and cable connectivity problems
  • It will need a few tools and poking inside the charging ports
  • Once done, the iPhone will be as good as new

Throughout its use, the iPhone’s charging ports can get dirty and cause problems in using the device. The port is too small to clean easily and will need some tools to remove the dirt. Fortunately, cleaning the port is easy once the tools are available.

Why Clean The Charging Port

The iPhone’s charging port is an important part of the smartphone that has many uses. It can connect the device to a charger to refill its batteries and even link the iPhone to a computer and other smart devices. Even though it is a small space in the smartphone, it is prone to collecting dust which could stop it from working properly in the long run.

To know if your iPhone’s charging port needs cleaning, the iPhone may not be as receptive to accessories. Charging slower than it used to be and sudden disconnections while connecting it to computers via cables is clear sign that it needs cleaning.

Tools Needed

To get started on cleaning the iPhone charging port, you’ll need an analog air blower, toothpicks, and cotton. Liquid cleaners such as alcohol are unhelpful here as it could damage the iPhone’s internal parts if used on it. Manually cleaning the dirt of the port is needed.

Before cleaning the iPhone, make sure that the smartphone is turned off first. This is to make sure that cleaning the charging port is safe while removing the dirt inside it.

Wrap a small piece of the cotton on the tip of the toothpick and start moving it inside the port. Moving the toothpick a lot will be needed to get all the dust but make sure to do it gently to not accidentally scratch the insides of the port. Once that’s over, use the analog air blower to blow the dust off the port. Both of these processes will need to be done many times to completely clean the charging port.

Clean Ports

Once the cleaning is done, the slow charging issues and sudden disconnections will be fixed. However, if the problem still persists, consult the nearest Apple store for repairs for your iPhone.
