Apple Mac App Store Passes 100 Million Downloads

The iPhone and iPad and apps that go with the popular products isn't all Apple Inc. has going for it. Of course not. The company that originally made its mark with the computer is still doing just that, as people are using the company's Mac computers are download apps from the company's store at a strong clip.

Apple's Mac App Store has exceeded 100 million downloads since early January, the company announced Monday. Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL) hasn't said how many apps are available in its Mac App Store, but the company has more than 500,000 total iOS app in its App Store.

While the download pace for the Mac App Store isn't close to the one billion downloads that occur in Apple's iOS App Store on a monthly basis it is evidence that the deveopers are delivering and consumers are buying.

The Mac App Store is Apple's online retail outlet for PC applications for Mac computers that run on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard or higher versions.
