Apple Might Bring Back Compact Handset With 5.4-Inch iPhone 12

Apple’s next-generation flagship smartphone, more popularly known as iPhone 12, might unveil in Sept. 2020. We are still a few months away from the official reveal, but the iPhone series is one of the favorite subjects of leaks and rumors. A new set of leaks today hints that the Cupertino company might want to bring back iPhones with a smaller display.

Japanese blog Mac Otakara shares a new set of details about the upcoming iPhone 12. Based on the leaked details, it appears that Apple is bringing back a smaller display size in one of the models under the iPhone 12 branding. Apple might release a 5.4-inch iPhone 12, making it the most compact model since iPhone SE and iPhone 8,

In terms of overall size, the 5.4-inch would be a lot smaller than the iPhone SE and iPhone 8, according to Mac Otakara citing supply chain sources. Additionally, as for its height, nothing is specific yet. But, according to Business Insider, the height of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 would fall between that of the iPhone 8 and iPhone SE.

As for its camera setup, the compact iPhone 12 would feature a couple of cameras similar to the iPhone 11. Aside from the display sizes, earlier reports claimed that the iPhone 12 series would feature improved augmented reality functionality. It could be due to Apple integrating 3D cameras on some iPhone 12 models.

Moreover, 2020 iPhone models might feature OLED screens and 5G networks, according to earlier rumors. A few days ago, Digitimes, a Taiwanese publication, reveals that it is the main supplier of the A14 Bionic chips for Apple. The A14 Bionic chip is the rumored processor that Apple will use on the iPhone 12.

Based on these details, it seems that the iPhone 12 series is shaping to be one of the most powerful smartphones releasing in 2020. The latest information from Mac Otakara seems to align with the earlier report shared by reputable Apple tipster and TFI Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. Given the specs, it looks like Apple is pushing for its pricing strategy that started with the iPhone X series.

The 5.4-inch iPhone 12 seems to be the next generation iPhone 11 variant. The Cupertino company’s iPhone is known to be a premium smartphone. But, it looks like it wants to cater to a different market segment by introducing budget-friendly iPhones.
