Apple To Offer Onsite Repairs In Select Cities Through New Partnership
KEY POINTS
- Apple now offers an onsite repair option for iDevices that need repairing
- The offer is only available for consumers in a few select cities at the moment
- Apple is offering this convenient repair option via a partnership with Go Tech Services
Apple is now offering an onsite repair option for those who need their Apple devices repaired but don't have easy access to an Apple Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider.
Apple, in partnership with Go Tech Services, is now offering onsite repair services for customers in select cities, MacRumors reported. The offer promises to repair broken or damaged iDevices “at your home of office.” This is seen to benefit both consumers who live far from an Apple Store, as well as the Cupertino tech giant, which had a reputation for making it hard to repair its devices.
The option to repair onsite can be seen while initiating a device repair request via Apple's Support site. The blurb under “Schedule A Repair” now says “Look for an Apple Authorized Service Provider or Genius Bar. In select locations, onsite service may be available.” The last line is a new addition indicating the new offer.
Not all iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac or MacBook owners in the U.S. can avail of this offer at the moment. Onsite repairs via Go Tech Services are currently available in Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New York and San Francisco only – those outside these locations will need to look for an Apple Store, Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP), or mail-in their devices for repair.
Those who live in these cities, however, have the option to choose Go Tech Services, which is listed as the top option where available, if it is available. Those who choose the AASP will be informed that they will need to pay an unspecified “onsite visit fee” in addition to the standard repair cost, then will be redirected to Go Tech Services's website after clicking on “Book through this provider.”
The onsite repair service request has to be initiated via Apple's Support page. Those who go to Go Tech Services's website without going through Cupertino's Support page will be greeted with a note that says “In order to request our service, you must have arrived from the Apple Support website.” A button that will take consumers to Apple's Support page sits below the greeting.
Those who request for the service via Apple Support will be asked to schedule a date, time and location for repair, and will be given confirmation. Onsite visit fees, however, will remain unspecified at this point. It's also unclear as to what kind of problems Go Tech Services will address at the moment.
