Apple, Sony Pay Japanese Customers Over Battery Fire
Apple and Sony reached an agreement on Monday to pay about 1.3 million yen ($12,903) to settle claims that a man was burned after an Apple computer caught fire, which allegedly was caused by a faulty Sony battery.
According to a Japan's news agency, Kyodo News, Apple and Sony reached the settlement with the man and his wife on April 2 at the Osaka District Court.
The couple had sought for 2 million yen ($19,800) which Apple, while accepting the liability, said it was extremely too much.
Sony in defense against the claim said that there was no link between the fire and the battery.
The fire incident and other reports of battery-related fires forced Sony to recall 9.6 million lithium ion batteries, in 2006.
