Apple Updates 2021: How To FaceTime Someone Without An iPhone
Move over Skype and Zoom. Apple has announced that iPhone users will now be able to contact Windows and Android users on FaceTime, CNBC reports.
Those that would like to FaceTime with loved ones who don’t own any Apple products must first download the latest version of iOS. A new feature will then let allow the Apple user to send a link in a web browser so their Android-using chat partners can join the FaceTime call.
Everyone who is sent a link must be approved to join the conversation by the Apple device user.
Here are the complete steps to calling someone who does not have an Apple product on FaceTime:
- Download iOS 15.
- Open FaceTime on your Apple device.
- Tap “create link” on the top left.
- Choose how you want to send the link via text, email, or through a third-party messaging software, like Slack.
- You’ll see the main FaceTime screen after the link is sent to a friend or family member.
- Tap “FaceTime Link” on the left to start the call on your Apple device.
- Now anyone who has the link can click on it, enter their name and request they join the conversation.
- As the host, you will be able to approve entry for anyone who wants to join by tapping the green checkmark button.
Apple has announced what you will be able to do multiple things with a FaceTime call using a web browser such as mute or unmute your microphone, use full-screen mode, switch your camera view, or turn your camera on and off. You will also be able to see people in your group FaceTime calls arranged in a grid, so the speaker's tile will highlight automatically.
According to The Verge, There will also be a voice isolation feature to improve sound quality, spatial audio support, and "portrait mode" will allow you to blur your background. There will also be a new feature called SharePlay which will enable users to watch or listen to the same thing at once whether it's songs or videos. Major names supporting the feature are Hulu, Disney Plus, HBO Max, Twitch, Apple Music, and Apple TV.
