Apple Watch Series 3, With Built-In Cellular, Gets Price, Release Date
Apple revealed its latest wearable device: the Apple Watch Series 3, which will be available for pre-order this week.
This year’s model includes a major boost. The Apple Watch Series 3 will come with built-in LTE cellular support, Apple’s COO Jeff Willams announced at the event held at the new Steve Jobs Theater.
Apple Watch Series 3 Features: Built-in Cellular
The device includes a new dual-core processor, which is 70 percent faster, a W2 chip, and the ability to play 40 million songs on your wrist. The device also features a quicker Siri and, most importantly, users will now be able to hear Siri after asking the virtual assistant a question instead of just reading the screen.
"We have packed Series 3 with the most advanced technologies over in a watch," Williams said as he revealed the device.
The Series 3 means users can now leave their iPhone at home when running to the grocery store and still be connected. Some apps will switch from the iPhone to the Apple Watch when it detects the phone has been left behind.
Williams said the "biggest challenge of all was adding cellular,” since Apple tried to avoid creating a bulky device. The Apple Watch Series 3 will be the same size as the Series 2. The new device’s display itself is a multi-frequency antenna for both LTE and UMTS. Apple also integrated an electronic sim card half the size.
Apple Watch Series 3 Release Date, Price
The Apple Watch Series 3 will be available for pre-order on September 15 and will release on September 22. The latest wearable device will start at $399 for the cellular and Wi-Fi model and $329 for the Wi-Fi only version. Meanwhile the Apple Watch Series 1 will remain at $249.
Beside the Apple Watch Series 3, the Cupertino company also revealed the much-anticipated iPhone X, along with the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and a new 4K Apple TV.
