Apple’s Back To School Promo Giving Away Free AirPods With Mac, iPad Purchases

Apple will give a free pair of AirPods for those who buy a Mac or an iPad as part of its back to school promo.

Cupertino tech giant Apple has launched its back to school promo and is offering Macs and iPads with education pricing, which is lower than the regular price. What's more, college students who purchase a new Mac or iPad will get AirPods for free, with the option to upgrade to an AirPods Pro for less.

It's worth noting that the company's back to school promo is launched early this year. Apple usually launches the promo in July and offers free Beats headphones with every purchase. This time, the company has decided to launch the deals in June and give AirPods instead of Beats. 9To5Mac speculated that this could be Cupertino's way of helping more students amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mac + AirPods

Students will be able to get free AirPods with any Mac or iPad purchase via Apple's education page. They can buy the new MacBook Air for prices starting at $899, the 13-inch MacBook Pro starting at $1,199, the 16-inch MacBook Pro from $2,199 and up, an iMac for $1,049 and up, and the iMac Pro starting at $4,599. Every eligible purchase comes with a free AirPods worth $159.

iPad + AirPods

Students who opt to buy an iPad will also receive AirPods for free. The education Apple Store page lists eligible iPads as the iPad Pro, which can be bought from $749 and up, and the iPad Air, which can be purchased from $479 and up. Apple also offers free engraving for iPad Pro and iPad Air purchases, aside from giving AirPods for free.

AirPods upgrades

As mentioned, those who purchase eligible Macs and iPads will have the option to upgrade their AirPods. Students can add $40 to get a wireless charging case with the AirPods, or add $90 to upgrade to the AirPods Pro.

Apple said the free AirPods promo is available to all college students, K-12 students as well as higher-ed teachers and faculty. Buyers will only get one free AirPods with every eligible Mac or iPad per qualified buyer. Purchases should also be made at a qualifying location. The offer is valid only while supplies last.
