KEY POINTS
- Apple will introduce its most affordable iPhone this year, according to a new report
- iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9 is reportedly entering mass production in February
- The most affordable iPhone could be Apple’s way of reaching to other segments in the market that Android smartphones cater
The year has barely started, but reports on the upcoming iPhone models from Apple are already rife online. Recently, a Japanese site shared a massive leak detailing the specs of the next flagship iPhone unveiling in Sept. 2020. Today, a new report claims that the most affordable iPhone of the Cupertino tech juggernaut is entering production and might unveil in Mar. 2020.
iPhone SE 2 Unveiling
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that the entry-level iPhone SE 2 will enter into mass production as early as Feb. 2020. The information comes from sources familiar with the Cupertino company’s launch timelines, the report claims. Additionally, Apple is planning to officially unveil the compact iPhone model as soon as next month.
Apple would allocate the assembly of the 4.7-inch iPhone SE 2 among three firms, according to the report. These are Wistron Corporation, Hon Hai Precision Industry, and Pegatron Corp, adds the report. If earlier leaks pan out, the iPhone SE 2 would be the most affordable iPhone model arriving this year, and the second most affordable iPhone after the iPhone SE.
iPhone SE 2 Spec, Features, Prices
Based on previous reports, the iPhone SE 2 might feature Touch ID on its Home button. Moreover, the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone would house Apple’s A13 Bionic chip similar to that found in the iPhone 11 series. In terms of design, the forthcoming iPhone model would sport the same design as the iPhone 8.
Apart from those, the iPhone SE 2 would feature a single-lens rear camera. In front, it will have a 4.7-inch LCD panel with top and bottom bezels. TF Securities Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo earlier reported that the iPhone SE 2 could retail at $399. Despite the influx of leaks and rumors, the official name of this entry-level iPhone is still unknown.
iPhone SE 2-A Strategy Of Reclaiming Market Share
Apple has set a goal of shipping over 200 million units this year. The iPhone SE 2, being a more affordable option to consumers, could play a crucial role in allowing the Cupertino company to achieve this goal. Also, a cheaper priced iPhone could help Apple compete in price-competitive and emerging markets, especially in India.
