"Aquaman" director James Wan, whose plan to make a spinoff movie, "The Trench," was canceled by DC Films, opened up about using the concept into something else.

The 45-year-old director explained how in every project he works on, he comes up with something but doesn’t necessarily use all of that material in the same project. Hence, when asked regarding the canceled spinoff, the director revealed that he can use that material in another project.

"I feel like everything I come up with, everything I do, if I come up with something that I don't end up using, that doesn't mean that I cannot be inspired to use that in a different way," Wan told ComicBook in an interview published Tuesday. "That's my problem, is I come up with a lot of ideas and I have so many ideas just percolating, but obviously, I can't use all of them."

"So I would say of all the different thoughts and ideas I've come up with, I end up using maybe 20-30% of them in my work, and so I do have a drawer full of ideas that could develop into something else," he added.

Warner Bros. and DC announced last year that they won't be going ahead with projects like "The Trench" and "New Gods."

"The Trench" was going to be based on Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis' novel of the same name. The story revolves around a cannibalistic race living in the ocean, who used to rule the earth before their continent was sunk.

Considering the "Aquaman" movie franchise, the first installment was dropped in 2018, and the second installment, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," is slated to release on March 17, 2023.

Wan recently made headlines because of the movie's actress Amber Heard, who is fighting a defamation case against her ex-husband Johnny Depp.

According to a new testimony, Wan and the lead star of the movie, Jason Momoa, wanted Heard to reprise Mera's character in the upcoming sequel.

Entertainment consultant and former producer Kathryn Arnold disclosed in the court Monday that Heard's role was almost chopped from the sequel due to Depp's case, but she continued her work because of Momoa and Wan's support.
