Arcade Fire on ‘Hunger Games’ Soundtrack: ‘Abraham’s Daughter’ Marches On [AUDIO]

Just enough to warm the palates of Hunger Games fans, Arcade Fire has released Abraham's Daughter, the film's lead track.

The song is one of two Arcade Fire contributions made especially for the movie's soundtrack, produced by music legend T-Bone Burnett.

Our whole approach was to get into the world and try to create something that serves the story and the film, Arcade Fie front man Win Butler told Entertainment Weekly in a recent interview.

There's something in the story of Abraham and Isaac that I think resonates with the themes in the film, like sacrificing children. So we made a weird, alternate-universe of that, where it's as if Abraham had a daughter -- kind of a metaphor for Katniss, he added.

The film is, of course, based on the popular young adult trilogy by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games follows Katniss Everdeen and her survival in the post-apocalyptic world, as she faces fight-to-the-death challenges, government struggles and corruption. The film adaptation of the second novel, Catching Fire, is due in theaters on Nov. 22, 2013.

Abraham's Daughter, which runs just over three minutes, has some light guitar chapters similar to Safe and Sound, another song on the soundtrack. The Taylor Swift and Civil Wars duet was first released in December 2011. The music video for Safe and Sound premiered in mid-February.

According to EW, Abraham's Daughter will play during the film's closing credits. Arcade Fire's other song, Horn of Plenty, will serve as a part of the score to The Hunger Games.

We were interested in making music that would be more integral in the movie, just as a mental exercise . . . and there's an anthem that runs throughout the books, the national anthem of the fascist Capitol. So as a thought experiment, we tried to write what that might sound like. It's like the Capitol's idea of itself, basically, Butler told EW.

Other artists on The Hunger Games soundtrack include Miranda Lambert, The Decemberists, Kid Cudi, Neko Case and The Civil Wars (sans Swift).

The Hunger Games arrives in theaters Mar. 23.
