The Archdiocese of Philadelphia will close five Roman Catholic high schools and close or combine 44 elementary schools, reported NBC 10 Philadelphia earlier.

It's extremely sad. Right now, there is a grieving process going on in 44 elementary schools and four high schools, Rita Schwartz, local president of the Association of Catholic Teachers, told The Associated Press.

Rising costs, decreasing enrollment and competition from charter schools are several factors that have led to the Archdiocese of Philadelphia's decision to close the schools, according to NBC.

In the past five years, the Archdiocese has already closed 30 schools.

My friends who went to Hubert's are flipping out, tweeted @WriterChickNJ.
