‘Are You The One?’ Star Giovanni Rivera Teases His MTV Comeback On ‘Second Chances’

Giovanni Rivera wasn’t quiet about his distaste for MTV’s editing on “Are You the One?” Season 4 but that didn’t stop him from returning for a new incarnation of the series. On Wednesday, fans of the network’s dating show will see Gio star alongside is proclaimed perfect match, Francesca Duncan, on the spinoff “Are You the One: Second Chances.”

“I saw this as an opportunity to reinvent myself and show the fans a different side of me,” Gio told International Business Times of the reason for his return. His love for competition and the fact that he would get to film in Australia helped.

After a turbulent season on “Are You the One?” Gio approached “Second Chances” with a fresh outlook.

“I changed my perspective on editing, I definitely don't think it’s that serious anymore. I cared too much about what people thought of me during Season 4,” he told IBT. “Also I didn’t drink this time around, which allowed me to be more conscious of what I was doing and saying. So ultimately, the only footage of me is the footage I wanted them to have.”

On “Are You the One: Second Chances,” Gio will reunite with Francesca, whom MTV’s matchmakers declared as his perfect match. While the pair never became an official couple -- Gio was infamously linked to fellow cast member Kaylen Zahara -- he says they eventually became a solid team.

“Francesca and I were on really bad terms going into the house. We had a big falling out when our season was airing and it had been months since I’ve seen or spoken with her. Our journey on this show is amazing,” he teased.

“Let’s just say that this show was a blessing for us,” Gio continued when asked if he believes in the matchmaking process post “Second Chances.” “She’s my perfect match for a reason and I can’t wait to watch our experience together.”

Following “Second Chances,” Gio is still yearning for a spot on MTV’s “The Challenge,” which in recent years has welcomed “AYTO?” alums with open arms. “I would decapitate everyone, snatch the crown off your favorite champions head, and win my rookie season,” Gio commented of how he would perform.

“Are You the One: Second Chances” premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. EDT on MTV.
