Are Zayn Malik And One Direction Members Still Close After Break Up?

While some fans had high hopes that Zayn Malik would keep in touch with members of One Direction following his departure from the group, it turns out that the “Pillowtalk” singer has no relationship with Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Liam Payne or Louis Tomlinson.

During an interview with Billboard, Zayn admitted that his communication with the members of his group has lessened since he left more than two years ago. “Everybody grows up; two of the guys have got kids now. But no, I don’t talk to any of them, really,” he told the publication.

“Our relationships have definitely changed since we were in a band together, but I think that’s just life,” Zayn added.

In March 2015, Zayn’s departure from the group was announced on Facebook. “My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band,” the statement read.

The singer went on to apologize to fans for his abrupt departure, but explained it was the right thing for him to do. “I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight. I know I have four friends for life in Louis, Liam, Harry and Niall. I know they will continue to be the best band in the world,” he stated at the time.

In their statement, One Direction echoed Zayn’s sentiments regarding an everlasting friendship. “We’re really sad to see Zayn go, but we totally respect his decision and send him all our love for the future. The past five years have been beyond amazing, we’ve gone through so much together, so we will always be friends.”

Although Zayn no longer speaks to the members of One Direction, he insists that it is “without malice” and he isn’t in competition with his former bandmates.

Looking to the future, Zayn has spent much of the summer and fall in the recording studio. While he has not revealed when the new tunes will make their debut, it’s only a matter of time before the star releases some new music.
