Schwarzenegger Admits Affair With Brigitte Nielsen during 'Red Sonja'

The controversy around Arnold Schwarzenegger’s adulterous past continued Saturday with the former California governor’s admission that he had an affair with actress Brigitte Nielsen after he and now-ex-wife Maria Shriver were already dating.

Schwarzenegger was living with Shriver at the time of his affair with Nielsen, according to the Associated Press. Sparks flew between the action star and Nielsen on the set of the film “Red Sonja,” which they starred in together in 1985.

Nielsen wrote in her autobiography, published last year, that she and Schwarzenegger had an “outrageous affair” during the film shoot, although she claimed not to know that he had taken up with Shriver. Arnold’s own memoir, “Total Recall,” which will be released on Monday, offers details about how he and Nielsen had a “hot affair." However, Schwarzenegger claims that the hookup only made him more devoted to Shriver.

Nielsen would eventually marry “Rocky” star Sylvester Stallone before moving on to a reality show with Public Enemy’s Flavor Flav. Schwarzenegger and Stallone starred alongside each other in “The Expendables 2,” released in theaters earlier this year.

This news won’t come as a surprise to many as Schwarzenegger. The former governor has been embroiled in scandal since last summer, when he announced that he and Shriver would divorce after more than two decades of marriage. It was later revealed that Schwarzenegger fathered the child of the family’s housekeepers and kept it a secret from Shriver for 14 years.

During a promotional tour for “Total Recall,” Schwarzenegger appeared on an upcoming episode of “60 Minutes” to explain the pain he caused his family.

“It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids,” the actor said, according to the Los Angeles Times. He also called the affair “the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship.”

During an interview with Hello magazine, the housekeeper, Mildred Baena, said she slept with the “Terminator” actor while the rest of his family was out of town in 1996. She also admitted that Shriver had a clue that the love child was in fact Schwarzenegger’s son.

“Finally, she asked point blank,” Baena said. “[Shriver] was so strong. She cried with me and told me to get off my knees. We held each other, and I told her it wasn’t Arnie’s fault, that it takes two.”
