  • Arsenal is linked to a move for Scottish Premiership star Odsonne Edouard
  • Edouard is viewed as a world-class striker with a cheaper price tag
  • The Celtic striker is also touted to replace one of the Gunners' veteran strikers

Arsenal could possibly have its own Erling Haaland in the next transfer window, a transfer insider has suggested.

During a recent episode of “The Transfer Window” podcast, renowned transfer insiders and hosts Duncan Castles and Ian McGarry talked about the future plans of Arsenal.

According to McGarry, who is one of the reputable transfer insiders in the sport, the Gunners have already made a “solid inquiry” for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, who could be “as effective as” Halaand but not as pricey as the Borussia Dortmund star.

“As we’ve already spoken about earlier in the pod, about Erling Haaland and his potential move this summer, we at The Transfer Window understand that there is another striker on the market for significantly less in terms of the transfer fee, but potentially, perhaps, someone who could be just as effective,” McGarry said.

“And that is Odsonne Edouard of Celtic, who has been a top scorer in the SPFL in the last two seasons, and someone who is available for around €25 million ($30 million),” he continued. “It is also our information that Arsenal are a club who have made a solid inquiry with regards to a transfer in this next window in the summer.”

With Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta expected to make a major rebuild in the next transfer window, McGarry also pointed out the possibility of Edouard becoming the replacement striker for Alexandre Lacazette, who has been linked to a move away from Emirates Stadium.

“What I’ve been told is that they’re willing to market and sell [Alexandre] Lacazette, who is of a similar style [as Edouard] but aged 29 and the outlay that Arsenal have put in to him in terms of transfer fee and wages is someone they want to cash in on with regards to a move out,” the insider added.

Edouard has been one of the biggest names in the Scottish Premiership, having notched an impressive 81 goals in 160 appearances for Hoops since his transfer from Ligue 1 side Paris Saint-Germain in 2017.

Lacazette, on the other hand, has been performing well for Arsenal in recent games, but his contract is set to expire next year. As early as now, the veteran striker is reportedly already being tracked by big-name clubs outside the Premier League, including AS Roma, Monaco and La Liga side Atletico Madrid.

However, Arteta is yet to confirm Lacazette’s exit and insisted that the former Lyon star has been doing “exactly” what the club has demanded of him.

"He's got a contract with us,” Arteta recently said of Lacazette in a press conference. “He played really well the other week. It's exactly what we demand him to do. I'm really happy with him and the discussions about his contract will happen soon and we will see what happens."
