Arsenal News: Mesut Ozil Agent Discusses January Transfer Plans
KEY POINTS
- Mesut Ozil faces an uncertain future as part of the Arsenal roster
- Ozil's agent reiterates the player's loyalty to the club
- Mike Arteta has the backing of the club's front office despite the series of blunders
Mesut Ozil has not played a single minute of soccer for Arsenal this season after he was omitted from both the English Premier League and Europa League lineups.
This has compelled Ozil's manager Dr. Erkut Sogut to open his phonebook and talk to teams that could take the German in.
Despite being ostracized from the squad, the agent claims that there remains considerable interest in his client from other clubs as the January transfer window approaches.
He admitted that there is a possibility of playing in Italy in the future, but Ozil's primary focus at the moment is representing the Gunners.
"Even one day is a long time in football, you never know," Sogut told Tuttomercatoweb. "Of course, there are many clubs interested in catching him.”
“This has never changed but his willingness to honor his contract and play hasn't changed either. He's a man of his word, loyal, and loyalty is hard to find in these times."
Ozil has been training regularly with Arteta’s first team but has no hope of game time at least until January when Arsenal can modify their roster.
Fans and pundits alike have found his omission baffling, considering that Arsenal is dealing with mishap after mishap this season.
"It's a shame that Mesut isn't playing. Of course, everyone focuses on his salary and I also understand why,” Sogut stated.
"But from a personal perspective, I say it's a waste considering his talent and creativity. I talked to Arsenal a few days before the summer transfer campaign and I told them about Mesut's feelings, his desire to stay, and how much he loved the club and they never told me he wouldn't be on the list."
Arsenal has now lost seven of their 12 Premier League games and is currently at 15th place, just five points above the relegation zone.
There has been considerable pressure on head coach Mikel Arteta with many questioning his future with the club, but the Spanish manager has received the backing of technical director Edu Gaspar.
