  • Alexandre Lacazette's future with Arsenal will only be known in the summer
  • Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta avoids questions regarding Lacazette's status
  • Lacazette continues to struggle as a member of Arsenal

Arsenal is aware that come this summer, Alexandre Lacazette will have options.

He has been having a so-so performance thus far, and his fate may only be known at the end of the current season.

The 30-year-old Frenchman will be among the interesting names in the next batch of players from Arsenal who will be out of contract.

Hence, Lacazette could be available via free transfer and rival teams are likely to try and lure him to their fold.

One person who could shed more light on what the Gunners are planning for the French footballer is Mikel Arteta.

Following Arsenal’s win over Watford, the Gunners boss was asked if he had plans of keeping Lacazette.

But as expected, he hardly touched the matter and preferred to engage in talks.

“It is the case,” Arteta stated. “I said to you, at the end of the season where we know where we are, we’ll sit down… we’ll decide what we do to move forward.”

For the record, Arteta did mention that the status of Lacazette will be addressed in the summer.

Given that the French player has not exactly been wowing for the Gunners, it raises questions on what Arsenal plans to do with him.

For now, all the Spanish boss can say is that “anything is possible.” However, he admitted that Lacazette had his share of good moments.

Thus it appears that everything will have to be touch-and-go for the moment with Arteta hoping that Lacazette can help the Gunners’ cause.

“I think he’s had really good moments in terms of goal-scoring records, probably better than what he’s doing right now, but for what we ask of him and for what I ask of him and the contribution that I need from him, I think he’s doing really, really well,” the Arsenal manager stated.

For his part, Lacazette had a pair of assists against Watford. But he has not scored a league goal since that penalty score when Arsenal won over Norwich City during the first half of the season.

As of this writing, Lacazette has seven assists across his name.

Moving forward, it will be interesting if he can improve on that and possibly help the scoring needs of the Gunners.
