KEY POINTS

  • Arsenal has signed promising teenage sensation Nikolaj Moller from Malmo
  • Moller is set to develop further under Steve Bould's U23s
  • He joins recent signings George Lewis, Tim Akinola and Jonathan Dinzeyi

Arsenal FC has signed young football star Nikolaj Moller. After failing to get any opportunities with Malmo, the Swedish teen could have better luck under the watch of Steve Bould’s U23 squad.

Goal reported that Arsenal landed Moller for an estimated £450,000 ($583,000) fee. The deal, which spans four years, will also include an option for an additional year if the 18-year-old performs well. Moller underwent a medical at London Colney on Monday.

Arsenal confirmed Moller's signing on its official website.

“Nikolaj Moller has joined us from Swedish side Malmo. He will link up with our Professional Development Phase this season,” the statement read. “The 18-year-old center-forward is a powerful striker and prolific goalscorer. He has spent most of his youth career in Sweden, but recently spent time on loan in Italy at Bologna’s academy.”

“We all welcome Nikolaj to Arsenal and look forward to watching his development with us. The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes,” the statement continued.

Moller will become the latest addition to Bould’s U23 squad for the coming season. He joins recent signings George Lewis, Tim Akinola and Jonathan Dinzeyi.

The next step for Moller is to join Arsenal’s academy where he is expected to hone his skills. If he stays the course, he could be one of the young players to watch who could make it to the first-team in the years to come.

According to The Boot Room, Moller has been compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who joined Arsenal as a youngster. The 39-year-old is best known as one of the great strikers of his generation, and the 18-year-old Swede has shown promise with his physical prowess and technical quality.

With Arsenal lacking a tall striker in the mold of Olivier Giroud, who left in 2018, Moller has a good chance of making the first team. Arsenal fans appear excited with the idea, aware that the 18-year-old could be one of the new young players the Gunners could have in the coming years.

But Moller is not the only young star whom the Gunners are working on. Omar Rekik is another player they have taken in following a deal with Hertha Berlin. He will be joining Moller in the Under-23s in North London.

Rekik had a previous spell with Manchester City and will cost Arsenal roughly £800,000 ($1.4 million).

As for the senior team, Arsenal made a late push to land Thomas Partey. The Gunners managed to sign Partey from Atletico Madrid on a long-term deal before the transfer window closed.

“Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal,” Edu said, Goal reported. “He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club.”
