As Arsenal get set to make an improved offer for Luis Suarez, there are reports that the Liverpool forward would be open to remaining in the Premier League. The Gunners had a £30 million bid knocked back for Suarez just over a week ago and now The Guardian has become the latest publication to state that a new offer of £35 million will be lodged as Arsenal look to test the determination of Liverpool to hold onto a player who has made it clear that he wants to exit Anfield this summer.

Suarez previously stated the reasons for desiring a move as his frustration with the treatment by the English press and made noises about wanting to play for Real Madrid. Instead, it is his eagerness to play in the Champions League that is believed to be the biggest factor in his decision. Sky Sports sources believe that the 26-year-old would consider remaining in England if offered the lure of playing in the world’s premier club competition. When asked if there was a realistic chance of Suarez signing for Arsenal, a source close to negotiations is reported to have said “Maybe.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal could be sparked into life by news that Manchester United have made a €30 million (£25.9m) bid for former Gunners captain Cesc Fabregas. Arsenal have first-option on the midfielder, a clause secured when he was sold to Barcelona for roughly the same fee as United have now offered, in 2011. While things have not gone exactly as Fabregas would have dreamt since he move to the Camp Nou, it seems unlikely that Barcelona will be prepared to sell, especially after having just sold fellow-midfielder Thiago Alcantara. The player has also repeatedly pledged his future to the Catalans, while, as good a player as he is, Fabregas would not fulfill an immediate need for Arsenal.

Manager Arsene Wenger is thought to have identified signing an experienced goalkeeper as a requirement this season, however. It appears, though, that the Gunners are close to missing out on one of their major targets in Queens Park Rangers’ Julio Cesar. The Brazilian No. 1’s agent has confirmed Arsenal’s interest in the 33-year-old but he also revealed that a deal to take him to Napoli is close to being sealed.

"It's not all done yet, there are many possibilities (that he goes to Napoli), but there are some details to be resolved between the player and Napoli," Josias Cardoso told Calciomercato.it.

"When will the signature arrive? I don't know, it could be today, or in a few days. The Villarreal interest? There has been some interest from Spain, but nothing concrete. The only two concrete tracks are Arsenal and Napoli."

The Daily Star believes that the losing battle for Julio Cesar has led Arsenal to increase their interest in Newcastle United stopper Tim Krul. The 25-year-old could be about to be the subject of a £6 million offer, according to reports in the Netherlands. That bid seems unlikely to stand a chance of prizing the Netherlands international away from St James’ Park.
