ARSENAL TRANSFER NEWS: Santi Cazorla on the Gunners’ Radar for Good Reason [Scouting Report]
Arsenal have been linked to several attacking players this summer, and the Gunners may have found one amid recent reports.
Santi Cazorla might be out of the Arsenal's price range, according to some reports, but Arsenal are expected to make a stronger push of the Malaga midfielder, who is valued between £15 million and £20 million.
Cazorla has already been on two European Championship winning teams with Spain, and has played nine years in La Liga with Villarreal and Malaga. Though he was used sparingly for Spain this summer, his stock may be at its peak at the moment.
What makes Cazorla so unique is his speed, more specifically the speed of his ball handling. He is also proficient with both feet, and is particularly adept at crosses. Having this natural ability, Cazorla has established himself as an ideal winger on either side.
The quickness and agility of his game is noted through his raw speed with the ball. Another important trait that he possesses is the ability to control and change the rhythm of the game. He often effortlessly achieves this through a series of cut-backs, one of them which is known as a “Cruyff turn,” originally perfected by Dutch legend Johan Cruyff.
The scouting report on Cazorla is that he likes to push the ball to the corner before ripping a deep cross to the penalty box. With some of the forwards that Arsenal currently have on their squad, Cazorla's skill set may be invaluable. The Gunners already have quality wingers in Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but Cazorla might be the most talented of the group.
Arsenal midfielder and fellow Spaniard Mikel Arteta has heaped praise on Cazorla.
"He's a top, top player," said Arteta. "He has got unbelievable quality and talent and that is all I can say."
Arsene Wenger concurred. "I share the opinion of Mikel Arteta. Cazorla is a great player," said the Gunners' boss.
With Cazorla on the market, Arsenal may need to be wary of other clubs increasing their interest. Tottenham were recently linked to Cazorla as a replacement for Luka Modric, and Real Madrid have kept their eye on Cazorla for several years.
