  • Mesut Ozil is in negotiations with DC United to play in MLS
  • The DC United deal includes business expansion options for Ozil
  • Arsenal may soon get financial relief if the talks come to fruition

Mesut Ozil knows that his future at the famous Emirates Stadium is not looking that bright, but it appears that several clubs are now starting to make a move to take him in.

The German defender is now engaged in negotiations with DC United of the Major League Soccer (MLS) as an attractive package offer is on the table.

This report comes from football.london which revealed that the package offered to the 32-year-old defender includes an expansion of his M10 brand in the United States.

It means that Ozil’s 39 Steps Coffee brand will be expanded to the Audi Field stadium aside from his merchandise line. There are also plans drawn up to make him the public figure of the Washington-based squad.

There is no telling if this move will turn out well. However, a potential move to DC United holds good chances.

Ozil’s agent Dr. Erik Sogut also has close ties with DC United executive Sam Porter. The benefactor is the same person who brought in Wayne Rooney from Everton in 2018.

Ozil has yet to see action for Arsenal, with Mikel Arteta leaving him out of the lineup. With the January transfer window underway, it was mentioned in a previous post that the Gunners manager could have a change of heart since they are lacking in attacking options.

The 32-year-old defender’s last appearance for the Gunners was last March 7 before football’s lockdown. That was a 1-0 victory against West Ham United.

Arsenal is looking at an available midfielder with Julian Brandt of Borussia Dortmund as a potential target. But taking him in would require money, roughly $49.11 million which is beyond what the Gunners can afford, Sky Sports reported.

A recourse would be to offload Ozil for Arsenal to recoup the $476,000 per week due to the German player. Until the recent update of talks being held between Ozil and DC United, things were looking bleak for Arteta and company.

Before addressing the attacking midfielder void, Arteta mentioned that they will also deal off some players on loan.

However, it was another way of saying that ties would be cut since Arsenal is struggling with players holding redundant positions that are not producing results.
