Arsenal Transfer Rumours: M’Vila, Mexes, Song and Tello Involved in Latest Speculation
Despite continued interest from Barcelona, Alex Song has intimated that he is happy to remain at Arsenal. The midfielder has been repeatedly linked with a move to the Camp Nou in recent times, interest that Song confirmed as he spoke about the speculation for the first time.
"I am not going to lie if I said there is no interest but I am at Arsenal and I am happy at Arsenal," he told Sky Sports.
"Barcelona are the best team in the world, and speculation will always continue until the window closes."
Arsenal will also be boosted if Sky Sports' assertion that Song is eager to extend his contract at the Emirates, which is due to expire in two years' time, comes to fruition.
Song's comments have not prevented the media from continuing to talk up a move to Barcelona, however. After being priced out of a deal for Javi Martinez, new Barca boss Tito Vilanova has identified Song as the man to fill the void left by the departed Seydou Keita in midfield, while also providing cover in the center of defense.
The Daily Mail claims that Barcelona are prepared to offer £17 million for the 24-year-old. According to the Metro, however, Arsenal have already informed Barcelona that they would want young winger Cristian Tello to join them as part of any deal.
Tello has been linked to the Gunners before and his future has been called into renewed questions after Barcelona failed to hand him a squad number for the upcoming season.
The 21-year-old came to prominence last season after scoring twice on his Champions League debut in a 7-1 rout of Bayer Leverkusen. He played little part in the conclusion of the season, however, after a poor showing in Barcelona's crucial 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid that all but surrendered the La Liga title.
As well as Song, Barcelona are also thought to have looked into the possibility of signing long-time Arsenal target Yann M'Vila. Speculation of the French international moving to the Emirates has gone quiet in recent times, although various news outlets still report him as a player that Arsene Wenger is considering.
The Gunners may have to move quickly, though, with the Daily Mail reporting that Tottenham are pushing hard to sign the Rennes midfielder.
M'Vila played in Rennes' first game of the season on Saturday, after which club chairman Frederic de Saint-Serni claimed that the 22-year-old "Has a concrete offer from England."
The player himself, though, said that he was not fazed by the continued speculation.
"I am happy. I'm not complaining and I'm playing," he explained. "As long as I'm at Rennes, I will be available to the manager.
"I'm not getting worked up over that [transfer speculation]. I could very well spend one more season [at Rennes]."
Further speculation over the weekend suggests that Arsenal may be about to launch a surprise move for AC Milan defender Philippe Mexes involving a swap with unsettled striker Nicklas Bendtner. Italian publication Corriere dello Sport reports that the France international's future at the San Siro is uncertain, just a year after signing on a free transfer from Roma.
Mexes could add cover to Arsenal's backline, while Bendtner may well be seen as a cut-price replacement for the recently departed Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
