Arsenal’s newest defender Carl Jenkinson has scored one of the weirdest own goals lately seen during his team’s friendly against Bundesliga club FC Cologne.

Jenkinson, 19, joined the Gunners’ squad this summer from Charlton in a £1 million deal. The defender found the back of his own net just before half-time with an eye-catching strike whose 22-yard controlled volley went over the head of keeper Wojciech Szczesny. The defender was substituted at half-time.

Arsenal’s recent Ivorian forward Gervinho, who was on in the game for just 29 minutes, put the team in front with two strikes with help from Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott.

Gervinho opened the scoring on seven minutes after receiving a clever pass from Jack Wilshere and again scored eight minutes later from a Walcott cross and left the pitch just before the half-hour mark after he collided with opposition keeper Michael Rensing, according to an arsenal.com report.
