'Breaking Dawn' Part 1 Draws $30 Million Overnight, How Will it Do This Weekend? [VIDEO]

Breaking Dawn - Part 1, the second to last film of the Twilight series, is finally here.

After months of waiting, thousands of Twi-hards across the country attended midnight screenings. And thanks to these midnight screenings, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 1 has already grossed more than $30 million, according to Box Office Mojo.

Early predictions have the film making more than $160 million this weekend.

To date, the most successful Twilight film remains the second installment, The Twilight Saga: New Moon, which grossed more than $709 million worldwide in 2009. Its successor, Eclipse, made more than $698 million in 2010.

The first Twilight film came out in 2008, forever unleashing Twilight-mania and the careers of Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner.

Based on the popular teen vampire novels by Stephenie Meyer, the latest film arrives nearly one year before the franchise's very last film adaptation. Breaking Dawn - Part 2 comes out on Nov. 16, 2012.

Reviews of Breaking Dawn - Part 1 have been mixed; even Rotten Tomatoes has given it a rating of 26 percent (the audience rating is currently at a whopping 92 percent).

The sexless, bloodless, padded and plodding Breaking Dawn, Part 1 is the worst Twilight movie to date, wrote Peter Travers of Rolling Stone.

By any normal standard, this is a terrible movie, with stilted dialogue and leaden pacing . . . the action stops for a musical montage involving slow-motion handsomeness. But the Twilight saga stopped being normal a long time ago, wrote Dana Stevens of Slate.

Despite the negative noise surrounding Breaking Dawn - Part 1, fans of Bella, Jacob and Edward have been strong on the Twitter front, heavily promoting the film and its beloved characters.

As of Friday afternoon, Breaking Dawn and Team Jacob were trending topics on Twitter (Team Edward was nowhere to be seen).

Already, fans are comparing the film's strong following to the fans of the upcoming film adaptation of The Hunger Games.

I really hope 'Team Peeta' and 'Team Gale' doesn't end up like Team Edward and Team Jacob, wrote one fan.

One Twitter user commented on the swarm of Twilight fans by taking an education angle.

Breaking Dawn made $30 mil on midnight showings. I hope every junior teacher in America threw an 8 a.m. pop quiz, wrote John Walters, a reporter.

While Breaking Dawn - Part 1 finally opens in North American theaters, the film's stars are still busy with promotional tours around the world.

On Thursday, Pattinson and Lautner suited up for the Barcelona premiere of the movie. The very next day, the two suited up again and traveled to Berlin, where, in true Twilight premiere fashion, they were greeted by a sea of (mostly female) fans, armed with cameras and posters hungry for signatures.
