A’s grab share of division lead, trounce Angels 14-0
The Oakland Athletics grabbed a share of first place in the division, trouncing the Los Angeles Angels 14-0, on a perfect all around game for the A's. The A's are now tied with the Texas Rangers for the best record in the AL West.
A's starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez cruised seven innings, allowing only one hit on his way to a shutout win. The offense came alive with contributions across the line-up as the A's 14 runs on 15 hits were the most all season.
In all, six A's batters had two hits or more during the game. Mark Ellis had 3 hits and 4 RBIs including driving in the first run of the game in the second inning, which proved to be the winning run.
The A's will now host the Minnesota Twins for a two-game set beginning Wednesday. On Tuesday, Twin's Hall of Fame slugger Harmon Killebrew died at the age of 74. A moment of silence was held before the game in memory of Killebrew who was a member of the A's broadcast team in 1982.
