Ashley Judd Health Update: Actress Goes Hiking In Swiss Mountains [Video]
Ashley Judd's injury has not discouraged her from following her passion: trekking.
Five months and three weeks after she had an accident at the Congolese rainforest in Congo, Judd shared on Instagram how she was recovering from the injury.
"Dear Friends, it is with reverence and quiet awe I offer this update. Today, five months and three weeks after the accident in the Congolese rainforest, I walked again, and in what fashion! I hiked in the #SwissNationalPark," the actress wrote on Instagram on Sunday. She also shared a short video that showed her hiking at the Swiss National Park in Switzerland.
The "High Crimes" star detailed how the hiking trip helped her in the recovery process.
"Stepping in, I felt in my ease, my natural garment of self, at home in my spirit. My leg and foot, worked beautifully. I walked up hill on uneven surfaces for an hour confidently and came down carefully and easily," she said.
In February, the 53-year-old actress suffered a "massive catastrophic" leg injury while on a trip to the Congolese rainforest. Judd visited the rainforest with a group of researchers who were studying an endangered species of apes, E! News reported.
In an Instagram live chat with The New York Times' Nicholas Kristof back in February, the "Good Kids" actress said she was severely injured after tripping over a fallen tree.
"There was a fallen tree on the path which I didn't see and I had a very powerful stride going and I just fell over this tree and as I was breaking my leg, I knew it was being broken…I knew, Nick, the DNA of what an evacuation from the rainforest entails it was kind of deep in my unconscious," she said.
Judd then narrated how she endured 55 hours of "incredibly harrowing" experience. She said she had to be carried on a hammock by her "Congolese brothers" back to the camp. She spent several hours "howling like a wild animal" and biting down a stick due to the pain.
In her Instagram post Sunday, the actress shared that she was recovering well and also thanked everyone who helped her during the ordeal.
