Ashton Kutcher Spoof: Popchips Ad Pulled After Being Called Racist [VIDEO]
Ashton Kutcher's most recent ad for Popchips has been pulled offline after complaints of it being racist.
The Popchips ad, which is displayed as a dating site ad for WorldwideLovers.com, shows Kutcher playing a brownface Indian Bollywood producer named Raj, among other wacky characters.
Kutcher is decked out in full Bollywood garb and puts on an accent in order to reveal he is looking for love, as the raj character.
After the Popchips ad was live for less than 24 hours, it was removed from media sharing websites for reasons of criticism from its viewers.
Ashton takes on a number of other personas in the promo -- including a hippie, a tattooed man and a fashionista - all of which currently remain online for public consumption.
A spokeswoman for Popchips insists the ads were meant to be taken in a light-hearted tone and was created to provoke a few laughs and was never intended to stereotype or offend anyone, according to the Associated Press
Kutcher's part in the Popchips ad is in support of his campaign for the snack food, which he has been promoting since 2010, when he was named the company's president of pop culture.
There's a 'King of Pop,' a 'Queen of Pop' and now a President of Pop! Actor, producer and social media leader Ashton Kutcher has joined popchips as the company's 'President of Pop Culture,' the company said in a statement.
Kutcher, who is a co-founder of successful media company Katalyst, has been instrumental in bringing social media to the mainstream.
Recently named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World, Kutcher has over 5 million followers on Twitter and more than 3 million Facebook fans.
Kutcher, while portraying people in the Popchips ad looking for love, is said to actually be looking for himself as well.
He has in the past been linked to many of Hollywood's hottest start, but has most recently been seen with former That 70's Show co-star, Mila Kunis.
Rumors about the duo being together began when they were spotted hanging out several times over the weekend, seen furniture shopping and dining. What could have possibly added fuel to the fire is the fact that Kunis was trying to hide from the paparazzi.
A representative for Kunis told U.S. Magazine that there is definitely nothing going on there and that the couple was not alone when they went out for dinner.
