Asian Tour News: 'Mr. International Series' Wows In Singapore
KEY POINTS
- Scott Vincent leads fellow golfers on the first day of the International Series title in Singapore
- Vincent feels that things just fell into place in his initial campaign
- Gavin Green of Malaysia is not far behind Vincent in the tourney
The International Series golf tournament in Singapore kicked off on Thursday, August 11 with Scott Vincent of Zimbabwe off to a tone-setting start.
The 30-year-old golfer opened with a bogey-free eight-under-par 64 in the opening round of the $1.5 million international series at the Tampines Course of the Tanah Merah Country Club.
Vincent, slowly living up to his moniker as "Mr. International Series," was pretty upbeat with his opening-day performance and claimed that things just fell into place on the first day.
"It was a great day, just got off to a really nice start, and then the momentum just kept going. As I have said before I am just out here trying to be a little better each day," Vincent stated. "Today was a really good day, a lot of things went my way, a lot of putts went in, so it was a good challenge trying to stay present and stay in the moment and enjoy each stage and not get too far ahead. Yeah, so that was the big challenge today and the golf was phenomenal."
The winner of the International Series in England back in June started his round on the back nine, where he made birdies in the 10, 13, 16 and 18, and also had gains on one, two, three, five and eight.
However, it was not all smooth sailing for the Zimbabwean pro golfer.
On the par-three sixth he hit what looked like a precision tee shot that was zeroing in on the pin.
Unfortunately, it hit the ball of his playing partner Sihwan Kim.
"Sihwan hit a shot to about three feet--that was the real problem. My shot came in and pitched on his ball and then kicked all the way back [about 30 feet]. I was fortunate to walk away with a par there but a nice little challenge there for me trying to finish my round. I was happy to walk away with a par," Vincent stated.
As of this writing, sitting in second place is Gavin Green of Malaysia. He also had a good start in the tournament, ending with a 65.
Finishing with 67s after the first day were Sadom Kaewkanjana, Phachara Khongwatmai and Tirawat Kaewsiribandit of Thailand, Kyongjun Moon of South Korea, Steve Lewton of England, and Juvic Pagunsan of the Philippines.
