  • 'Asphalt 9: Legends' Comes to Mac App Store
  • The new Gameloft title was released using Catalyst
  • User can play on multiple Apple platforms

“Asphalt 9: Legends” was, recently, launched on the Mac App Store for users to download. The video game title was ported to the platform using Mac Catalyst framework.

The popular Gameloft arcade racer, “Asphalt 9: Legends,” was announced in June 2019 at the renowned Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) by Apple. However, the porting hit a few roadblocks and the launch was delayed. It was supposed to be released before the end of 2019.

In Oct. 2019, “Asphalt 9: Legends” and “DC Universe” pulled out from Apple’s website as two major titles to be arriving on Mac through Catalyst. It was unclear if these major games were planning to opt-out of the Catalyst plan.

Gameloft dropped the title on Mac App Store and excited fans downloaded the game. However, 9to5Mac reported that a user posted a review sharing his concern about the incompatibility across other Apple devices. At the time of writing this article, the review was taken down from the store. It is likely that Gameloft fixed the issue.

Meanwhile, many users and developers shared their concerns about Catalyst months ago. Apple developer Steven Troughton-Smith remarked that, as a user, he would not appreciate paying again to have the same app. Also, as a developer, he would not want his users to make that decision.

Coming back to “Asphalt 9: Legends,” the game offers an extensive roster of super-fast cars from known manufacturers like Porsche, Ferrari, W Motors and Lamborghini.
